systems bigger than you
Being trapped inside a belief system, cult, institution or ancient force that existed long before you arrived. Personal choices may not be enough to escape it. Midsommar, Martyrs, The Exorcist, Nosferatu.
isolation & unseen
Help is too far away, communication is failing, and the character is alone with the unknown — physically like Alien and Jaws, or psychologically like The Blair Witch Project.
